All Glee All the Time

“That last song was from
‘Glee’, as was the one before that…and coming up more from ‘Glee’.”

Radio listeners in Oxford, England can now tune in Glee FM.  A station whose entire playlist consists of 80 songs from the U.S. TV show Glee.

That means nothing but covers of songs like “(You’re) Having My Baby” and “Bust a Move” sung by the cast of this series about a high school glee club.

Officials in Oxford may need to put more resources into their suicide prevention program.

BBC to Axe Alternative 6 Music Radio Station

David Bowie, alternative music fans and record executives are decrying the BBC’s decision to shut down the digital radio station 6 Music.  Not unlike WFUV and The Alternate Side, it is a crucial showcase for new bands and artists that are ignored by other media outlets. [TimesOnline]

The snowstorm has disrupted blood donations.  Blood is needed for victims of emergencies and for cancer patients.  You can check The New York Blood Center online or call 1-800-933-2566 to donate.  The center serves New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and New Jersey.

On WFUV’s Question of the Day we’re playing your favorite blood songs.

Valentine’s Day Advice for Men

Guys, looking for that perfect gift  to give her on Valentine’s Day?  It’s not a teddy bear in a skunk suit.  Nope, it’s not a gym membership, or a vacuum cleaner, either.  Bathroom scales are out, as are breast implants (unless you live in L.A.).  Other no-nos include porn, and anything in a small jewelry box that is not a diamond ring.   Even lingerie can be a dicey proposition.

So what does that leave?  Try roses or a romantic dinner.  If you’re strapped for cash, you could clean the bathroom (only if you live together!)

Now, all I ask (in exchange for this priceless advice) is that you click on the shopping cart at wfuv.org when you do your shopping.  It supports WFUV and it doesn’t cost you anything more.  It’s like giving a valentine to your sweetheart and WFUV, too.

Double Your Generosity to WFUV

Hey, WFUV members, did you know your contribution to the station could be worth DOUBLE?  If the company you work for has a matching gift program, your contribution to WFUV can be DOUBLED.  Ask your human resources department for their matching gift form.  Then send it to WFUV and your contribution will be DOUBLED.

Thanks for Supporting WFUV!

Freedy Johnston – Rain on the City

I’ve already found my favorite new album of 2010.  It’s the soon-to-be-released Rain on the City by Freedy Johnston.  Johnston’s This Perfect World was one of the best albums of the ’90s.  This new one is equally as good.  I’ll spin it uninterrupted as The WFUV CD of the Week on 90.7 FM January 14th at 8 pm.  Then you can catch Freedy performing at City Winery in New York on January 19th.
