Gil Scott-Heron's The Revolution Will Not Be Televised...hands down the best rap about The Struggle, ever.

Speaking of HIV, Annie Lennox appeared at the RockNRoll Hall of Fame show wearing a T-shirt that said HIV Positive on the front, and sang Chain Of Fools with Aretha, which was great, but she never did anything of her own, most notably, Why.

This, of course, left me feeling hollow and unfulfilled, unlike WFUV, which always comes through in the clinch.

Fill me up, yo...

of all the artists, Elton John epitomizes the efforts for
AIDS awareness: "SKYLINE PIGEON"- an early gem (a harpsichord version
may be on the Royal concert album?)...he played this tune for that
young boy sticken w/ HIV- his name is on the tip of my tongue...David
White?.... of all the artists we lost in those early days i.e. Freddie
Mercury, the one I really miss alot is Peter Allen ("I Go To Rio")-
just as flamboyant as Liberace and Elton....

Here's an eclectic mix for World AIDS Day:

If you're in a showtune kind of mood then anything from Rent - I love "No Day But Today."

Then there's Lou Reed's "What's Good" - although I think it was about the loss of his friend to cancer, it's a song that really captures grief (along with the entire feel of that album "Magic and Loss.")

Finally - for a little irreverance with a message that is still important - Neneh Cherry with Michael Stipe: "Trout" The title doesn't tell you anything, but it was an early 90's song about the need for "S-E-X-E-D-U-C-A-T-I-O-N for the children y'all" - and was specifically about condom use.

Thanks for asking about this theme. I"m curious to see what others come up with.

Freddie Mercury (who died of aids related complications- don't you think he was a major influence on pop music? I sure do! Don't even know which song to choose - Bohemian Rhapsody, We are the Champions, Somebody to Love? - Gosh, I could list more but too many songs, so little time!

And how can we overlook Springsteen - Streets of Philadelphia!!! - The movie Philadelphia protrayed such a valiant fight of the aids stricken protagonist. I bet you get tons of requests for this one.

Ok - that's my 2 cents for today.
I'll be listening as always!

Have a great day!

One of those artists whom it seems, doesn’t get a lot of press for what she is doing for AIDS (esp. in Africa) is Annie Lennox. She has done, and continues to do amazing work for the cause. I saw her recently and she was so passionate about all of it.

My request for the day is Annie Lennox song Sing off the Songs of Mass Destruction album. A beautiful, soulful, heartfelt and passionate song about women in Africa dealing with the AIDS crisis.

Hope you are well today.

In memory of all those who have died of AIDS and in honor of all his support for AIDS research, I suggest Elton John's "Candle On The Wind."
