Outdated

We are talking about outdated lyrics.  Tracy of Oceanside mentioned the song by The Turtles  – So Happy Together which includes the lyrics:

“…If I should call you up/Invest a dime”

What can you come up with?

Elvis Costello String Band?

The forthcoming Elvis Costello album, Secret, Profane & Sugarcane, was recorded in Nashville in 3 days with T Bone Burnett producing and an allstar lineup of studio pickers–Stuart Duncan, Jerry Douglas and others.  I hear the only amplification on the recording is T Bone’s signature Kay guitar. Emmylou Harris and Jim Lauderdale harmonize. Also hear that the vinyl will have a cover of Femme Fatale. Track list includes 2 songs from the Costello catalog and one co write with Loretta Lynn. Woo-hoo.

Here’s the track list:

1. Down Among the Wine and Spirits
2. Complicated Shadows
3. I Felt the Chill
4. My All Time Doll
5. Hidden Shame
6. She Handed Me a Mirror
7. I Dreamed of My Old Lover
8. How Deep is the Red
9. She Was No Good
10. Sulfur to Sugarcane
11. Red Cotton
12. The Crooked Line
13. Changing Partners

The Decemberists at SXSW

The Decemberists premiered their new work at SXSW to a packed, adoring crowd at Stubbs. The new album, The Hazards of Love, as you have probably heard, is a rock opera. It is a sweeping, dramatic, theatrical, ambitious, piece. It was amazing to watch the crowd hear this music for the first time. Colin was in great voice tackling this sometimes challenging material. The two female voices stole the show–Lavendar Diamond chickie and My Brightest Diamond chickie–awesome.

Good news for those not here–the tapes were rolling (thank you NPR Music) and we’re bringing it home to you tomorrow night starting at 7p. Heartless Bastards, Avett Brothers and The Decemberists and then some more highlights including Blk Jcks, Blind Pilot and more.

Follow me on Twitter and/or Facebook and on WFUV here and there too.

Sunny and 80 degrees in Austin. Flip flops take me to the day parties!
