Look Out Any Window

window

Today’s release of a new computer operating system gives us an excuse to explore songs about Steve Ballmer, just kidding. It actually is amazing how many songs there are about windows.

  5. Erin on October 22nd, 2009

Paul simon’s Graceland has an amazing line, losing love is like a window in your heart…”

    Have a great day!

  6. Daniel on October 22nd, 2009

Could you play Eliza Gilkyson’s cover of “Is It Like Today?” It mentions a “glassless window” right at the beginning of the song, and also it’s really good.

Yesterday was too hard, but a good set nonetheless.

Windows Vista pushed me to finally buy a mac. Now, I am ready to start using a pc again with arrival of Windows7

    Here’s the suggestions observing the Windows7 arrival….

    * The Windows Of The World – Dionne Warwick
    * Lookin’ Through The Windows – The Jackson 5
    * My Little Blue Window – Elvis Costello
    * Window Shoppin’ – Hank Williams
    * She Came In Through The Bathroom Window – Beatles (or as done by Joe Cocker)

or a different spin using operating system (Windows 7) as part of the search terms for this theme:

    * See The World by Gomez from How We Operate (or the title song for that album)
    * Operator – Grateful Dead
    * Dream Operator by the Talking Heads on True Stories (********)

Tons more using Windows as the search term

Just stepped outside…. going to be a nice one….. enjoy

” when I look out my window – so many sights to see…
and when I look in my window – so many different people to be …
    it’s strange……. so strange …. ”

” Season Of The Witch ” — Donovan

    A window on my thoughts:
    “Chelsea Morning” by Joni
“Lookin’ Through the Windows” by the Jackson 5
“She Came in Through the Bathroom Window” by Joe Cocker
and finally, my bet for the popular request for today, “Come to My Window” by Melissa Ethridge.

  10. Kathleen on October 22nd, 2009

It’s been a dark morning so far — how about the resolutely cheerful Look Through Any Window by The Hollies? It has always been a NYC song to me.

  11. Joyce on October 22nd, 2009

“Window Seat” by John Wesley Harding

  12. Eric on October 22nd, 2009

Instead of You Are The Everything,

I’m Looking Through You by The Beatles.

Seems like it could be an ode to a computer operating system

  13. Klara on October 22nd, 2009

Those are my songs with windows:
Travis – Flowers In The Window
Melissa Etheridge – Come to My Window
Bob Dylan – Sign On The Window

As we’re talking about windows, from my window I can observe garden of my neighbour who is mad about gardening. In his small and very tiny garden there are hundreds diffrient kinds of plants and even few trees:)This is pretty funny.
Is there any *window* in your WFUV’s studio? Probably not. But maybe someone of other listeners have interesting views from his window??

    Have a good day

  14. Kim on October 22nd, 2009

    Windowsill by the arcade fire

Love that song! Have a great morning!

  15. Derek on October 22nd, 2009

Box of rain, by The Grateful Dead

  16. Dan on October 22nd, 2009

Really reaching for ‘Window Songs’ (and, most likely, not those for ‘computer’ windows) –

    1. “From a Window” (Chad & Jeremy)
    2. “She Came In Through the Bathroom Window” (The Beatles (or, Joe Cocker)).
    3. “It Ain’t Me, Babe” (Bob Dylan)

And, REALLY ‘Reaching’, as if Louis Armstrong was ‘looking out his window’ and sings: “What a Wonderful World”.

  17. Dennis on October 22nd, 2009

So I KNOW, every morning you guys walk into the studio and say: where has the rnr foot doc gone!!!

Sorry. Life has been overwhelming recently!!!

Anyway, re: Windows, not to be cruel or harsh, but…

“Go away from my window, leave at your own chosen speed…”

I KNOW you played early Dylan before, which was really cool, but since WE ALL know you can NEVER Have enough Dylan, I submit, for your approval,

    It Ain’t Me, Babe.

    Thanks.

Hope you have all been well.

The Window Song, by Steve Erle

  20. Bill on October 22nd, 2009

“My Little Blue Window” – Elvis Costello

There are loads of songs with window in them.

“There are always Ulterior Motives” (Me)
“Truth Like Beauty is in the Eyes of the Beholder” Elim Garak

  21. Joe on October 22nd, 2009

    Two ways to approach this…

    In the title:

“She Came in Through the Bathroom Window” Beatles

What a lot of people feel…“Window Blues” by Band of Horses.

“Window on the World” John Hiatt & the Goners

    In the lyrics:

“Morning Glory” either Tim Buckley’s original or BS&T’s classic cover.

As part of my one man effort to keep Phil Ochs on the radio, how about “Outside of a Small Circle of Friends”

And lastly, the seasonally incorrect “Snow is Gone” by Josh Ritter from the 4 Songs Live EP. A great, great, great live version!

  22. David on October 22nd, 2009

    Tough one!

How about Just My Imagination – Temptations (it’s April, my window I watch out as she passes by…)

And/or Windows Of Hope (Oleta Adama)

    And of course;
She Came in Through the Bathroom Window – Joe Cocker version, PLEASE!

  23. susan on October 22nd, 2009

Look Through Any Window by the Hollies. Not only is it perfect for today’s theme, but it features one of the best drummers of the 1960s—Bobby Elliott.

  24. Alisa on October 22nd, 2009

How about a Dan Fogelberg tune? Sort of sad one – sorry ’bout that. “Windows and Walls”

    Ben Folds – Picture Window

Steve Earle – The Window Song

Bob Dylan – Don’t Think Twice, It’s all Right (lyric – “look out your window, baby ,I’ll be gone”. Actually would be nice to hear the Jerry Jeff Walker version if you can!

There’s a Hank Williams song called “Window Shopping” I think? (about looking for love?)

Ok, gotta get back to work -
    Always fun to play!

  25. Jillian on October 22nd, 2009

    Kathy’s Song
    Simon & Garfunkel

Good Morning…My first thought about songs with a reference of a window is
Arethas…. Until you come back to Me…. I love the line about tapping on your window pane..
    How romantic!!!!!.

Closest I can come up with this morning is:

“Silhouettes” – Herman’s Hermits or the 50s version (not sure who – The Diamonds?)

  33. Sandi on October 22nd, 2009

My mind draws a blank on this one. The only songs that come to me are the obvious Washing Windows by Van Morrison & Windows Of My Mind by Gordon LIghtfoot???

  34. Gwen and Parker on October 22nd, 2009

The Hollies – Look Through My Window

Mamas and Papas – 12:30-Young Girls Coming to the Canyon

The Hollies’ Look Through Any Window – the harmonies – Graham Nash’s great voice – it’s a classic.

  36. Suzanne on October 22nd, 2009

The opening line’s to Martin Sexton’s “Where Did I Go Wrong” have a great image of a window:

“The venetian blinds are open tonight
Just enough to let in the street light
And the shadows paint lines over everything
    In the room”

Looking forward to hearing the selections and reading the blog!

    Happy Thursday

    Richard Thompson’s House of Cards

  38. Loretta on October 22nd, 2009

Hey….sorry, I could have sworn (and still believe I saw it live) about “Framed” – it is a song, but I can’t find a copy by David Bromberg, but I really think I saw it live by him at one time, and my friend thinks so too.

Anyways, Little Feat covered it- the Coasters did it, and The Sensational Alex Harvey did a bizarre cover of it too. It was written by Leiber and Stoller.

I feel bad that I sent you on a wild goose chase – it was unintentional

  39. Don on October 22nd, 2009

Can you please play Looking out the Window by Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Donovan – Season of the Witch

(can’t remember the artist – few years back) – She Don’t Like Roses (“…and her bed is under her window…”)

  47. Chris on October 22nd, 2009

How about “Cleaning Windows” by Van Morrison if it hasn’t already been suggested.

  48. Jim on October 22nd, 2009

A little obvious, but, Cleaning Windows, Van Morrison (the Live at the Grand Opera House version is pretty good. A little less obvious, St. Dominc’s Preview, V.M. There’s an acoustic version that I heard one time, and one time only, on FUV a bunch of years ago. If you could find that, play it and tells where we can find it, that would be great. I ask a lot, I know.

  49. Mike on October 22nd, 2009

Windows are for protection against the elements and also a computer operating system, so combining both we have “Climbing up the Walls” by Radiohead from OK Computer. Also:

    * “Come to my Window” – Melissa Etheridge.
    * “Windows and Walls” – Dan Fogelberg.

  50. Kristin on October 22nd, 2009

    Missy Elliot
“I can’t stand the rain (against my window)”

  51. Jeff on October 22nd, 2009

    “Storm Windows” John Prine

  54. Bryan on October 22nd, 2009

I am sending the song Window Pane in honor of Windows 7 Operating System launch for today’s theme. Andria Cometa’s husband Tom and I play in a band together named Ghost Head and have a groovy version of Tom’s original song Window Pane for your listening pleasure. Hopefully this will fit in nicely and you will give it a listen and get in on the air.

  55. Mike on October 22nd, 2009

How about “From A Window?’ by Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas, written by Lennon & McCartney?

  56. Jay on October 22nd, 2009

The Old 97’s actually have several “windows” songs, but this is my favorite:

    Murder (Or a Heart Attack)

    And the hole
In the screen is barely big enough for you
And not near enough for me to go

    And the whole damn complicated
    Situation could’ve been
Avoided if I’d only shut the window

    CHORUS:
And I may be leavin’ myself open
To a murder or a heart attack
But I’m leavin’ the back door open
‘Til you come back, ’til you come back

And I may be movin’ myself closer
    To a real untimely end
But I’m leavin’ the back door open
‘Til you come home again, ’til you come home again

    And I told
The neighbors, I put pictures up
And handed out some flyers at the show

    And the whole town speculating
    Situation could’ve been
Avoided if I’d only shut the window

  57. Christina on October 22nd, 2009

How about Van Morrison’s Washing Windows? Great positive working song.

  58. Tara on October 22nd, 2009

I wanted to make my suggestion this morning but I was in the car too long and really couldn’t get online. I would have loved to have heard Fiona Apple’s “Window”. Such a great angry song for sitting in traffic.
