Country Crooner? I’ll put in a vote for Kathy Mattea! Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses
    Life as we Knew It
    Burnin’ Old Memories
    Time Passes By

And Trisha Yearwood fits the bill as well. Favorite song of hers? Easy – “On a Bus to St. Cloud ”
When I play it, I keep playing it – can never get it out of my head. Just stays with me all day!

Well, that should cover me for today!
    Have a good one!

Have to start with: Crying Roy Orbison and K.D. Lang
Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain Willie Nelson
    Together Again Emmylou Harris

The very best: For the Good Times Ray Price
Am I Losing You Jim Reeves

There is no need to play a Patsy Cline song Mauara Kennedy on her solo CD Parade of Echoes – does her own Patsy Cline song “Shadows with the Lonely” I hope you have it in the library.

As a native Tennessean, I feel somewhat an expert on the country side. My father raised me on Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette and Loretta!

    the old:

    Sweet Dreams/Patsy Cline
    Ode to Billie Joe/Bobbie Gentry
    Stand by your Man/Tammy Wynette
    Coal Miner’s Daughter/Loretta Lynn

    the new:

    Boy from Tupelo/Emmylou Harris
    Lucy One/Alison Krauss
Thought it Would be Easier/Shelby Lynne
    Neko Case/Maybe Sparrow

Eddy Arnold is the artist that comes to mind for me when you say Country Crooner. I would say that ‘The Cattle Call’ would be a good example of it.

Not Too Much to Ask – a great duet / ballad by Mary Chapin Carpenter and Joe Diffie (1992)

wELL MY CHOICE FOR THE COUNTY CROONERS WOULD HAVE TO BE PATSY (LIKE MANY OTHERS IM SURE). CRAZY, I FALL TO PIECES OR SWEET DREAMS…

I GET CHILLS JUST THINKING ABOUT HER BELTING OUT THOSE BEAUTIFUL SONGS. SHE MAKES YOU FEEL WHAT SHE IS FELLING AS SHE SINGSTHOSE LYRICS WITH THAT UNMISTAKABLE VOICE.
    HOPE TO HEAR ONE TODAY

How about the Rolling Stones with Dean Flowers,

My suggestion is Dolly Parton’s “Jolene.” But could you play Mindy Smith’s cover? That is the version that, at least according to what she said during a Mountain Stage appearance a little while back, Parton considers the definitive performance. (Pretty nice complement, no?)

Hank Williams, I’m so Lonesome could Cry.

I really wish you would play that new group, Augustine! Have you heard the song “Coals”! It would go great with your show!

How can we forget good ol Wille? Angels flying to close to the ground has my vote.

  15. Michael on November 11th, 2009

    “Always Late” by Lefty Frisell!

William Topley, with his powerful rich bass and smooth lyrics, gets my vote as a little known, but easy to listen to country crooner.

Try “Sea Fever”, a early 18th century poem, or “I will Be There”. Hit play, sit back, enjoy!
