Jill Sobule – Palm Springs (it’s the perfect song mentioning Gram Parsons / Brian Wilson / Sonny Bono / Bad Bad Leroy Brown) what more can up ask for ?

First song that comes to mind these days – one that’s never too far from my thoughts, actually is the song on Jonatha Brooke’s CD – “The Works” – the duet with Keb Mo called ‘All You Gotta Do Is Touch Me – what a combo, the pair of them! Actually the trio of them since we have to give credit to Woody Guthrie.

If you can see your way clear to give some play time to this one, Monday would be a whole lot better!

Thanks as always for the morning smiles!!!

By far, my favorite song of the year is Brandi Carlile’s “Dreams”

    Have a great day!

    OMG! Another ‘toughie’!

    Well, I DO have a few –

    1. “Won’t Get Fooled Again” (Richie Havens)
    2. “Serious” (Richard Hawley)
    3. “Top of the Bottom” (John Wesley Harding)

Any of those would do it for me.

Thank you (and, a belated – Happy Birthday!)

  7. Joyce on November 30th, 2009

“Wild Boy” by John Wesley Harding

The Avett brothers album “I and love and you” gets my vote for one of the years best. The track by the same, despite being played a bit too much and making it’s way to other radio stations and being sold at starbucks, remains a touching and wonderful song that sets the tone for an album that makes me want to stop all I’m doing, close my eyes and just listen.
    Thanks

God is God or Day After Tomorrow (both by Steve Earle?) on the latest Joan Baez album (Day After Tomorrow).

I was just thinking about suggesting “Holding On” by Cheryl Wheeler, and then I thought, Maybe I should suggest something better known, like the new recording of “Summer Fly.” But right at that moment, you started playing a song called “Holding On.” (Didn’t catch the artist’s name, but he’s not Cheryl Wheeler.) So it must be a sign.

But much as I like Cheryl Wheeler, that’s not quite the best song of the year. The best song is “Angel Gabriel” by Among the Oak and Ash. There were no signs for that one, but it has an angel in it.

The best record for me this year is Elvis Costello’s…. It’s so good that I’m going to give my vinyl copy to a good friend who also listens to the medium (I’ll find another)…………

    “Sulfur to Sugar Cane”

“You and I” by Wilco is one song I can’t get out of my head.

  13. Klara on November 30th, 2009

“Want Some More” by Dan Auerbach, very addictive song
I’ve got also one more song, first time I’ve listened to it just week ago but it’s gonna definitely be one of my favorite songs of this year, it is Laura Marling with kind of Christmas but not necessarily “Santa Claus’s song” called ” Goodbye England”. Really beautiful tune.

  14. Gary on November 30th, 2009

I can finally say it, now that the airwaves aren’t saturated with Wilco’s “You Never Know”.

A great feel good song with exquisite harmonies and a beautiful nod to George Harrison.

This is rather off the beaten track for me because I am a big fan of Pete Yorn, Josh Ritter, Monsters of Folk and the like, but the song from this year that I cannot get out of my head is Animal by Miike Snow. And my kids like it too…

Thanks for all the great hours of morning music,

My favorite for the year is Bell x1’s “The Great Defector.” Every time I hear it, I start bouncing in my chair (or dancing if I’m standing) and I want to hear it again and again. It makes me feel great!

    Thanks for asking!

  28. Steve on November 30th, 2009

    Acid Tongue – Jenny Lewis

    Too many to choose from!

I love Why I am, DMB… I think this is their best Studio Album to date.

Born Again Corey Chisel… This guy’s got alot of great songwriting talent, the vocals with his keyboard player Adriel Harris are chilling at times. I hope to hear more from them in the future.

Backwards down the number line, Phish… Its great to see the band back together, and they sound fantastic. Trey’s got another radio friendly tune that shows they really can play music when they want to.

  30. Larry May on November 30th, 2009

The hooks keep coming in “A Whole Lot Better” by Brendan Benson. Definitely the one song that’s stuck in my head the most this year.
Also must give a shout to Bob Mould for “I’m Sorry, Baby, But You Can’t Stand In My Light Any More.” Thanks FUV for tix to Bob Mould at the Fillmore which was one of the best shows I’ve seen in recent years!
