Fight AIDS!

Keith_Haring_fight_AIDS

Today is World AIDS Day, we remember those who have passed or are living with the disease. But also to increase awareness, fight prejudice, and improve education. In honor, we celebrate artists who have been affected by AIDS, or who joined in the fight to find a cure.

You can fight the fight too! The Red Hot Organization stands at the front lines of the battle by producing albums with compilations of artists who lend their hit tracks towards a cure. If you pick up an album, proceeds support AIDS prevention and relief!

Please play Hush, Hush, Hush. The Paula Cole version is great, but the Annie Lennox/Herbie Hancock version is incredible.

    Thanks for the great music.

Freddie Mercury sadly lost his battle to AIDS years ago and in doing so he left a void in the music world, taking that magnificent voice of his with him. “Who Wants To Live Forever” by Queen sums up the man and his music for me. RIP Freddie.

    Thanks for “listening”.

Annie lennox was seen at the recent Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame concert wearing a t-shirt that said ” HIV POSITIVE” on the front. It got people talking and that’s what she intended – she’s a powerful activist for the cause.

    No More ” I love You’s”.

In memory of all those who have died of AIDS and in honor of all his support for AIDS research, I suggest Elton John’s “Candle On The Wind.”

One of those artists whom it seems, doesn’t get a lot of press for what she is doing for AIDS (esp. in Africa) is Annie Lennox. She has done, and continues to do amazing work for the cause. I saw her recently and she was so passionate about all of it.

My request for the day is Annie Lennox song Sing off the Songs of Mass Destruction album. A beautiful, soulful, heartfelt and passionate song about women in Africa dealing with the AIDS crisis.

    Hope you are well today.

Freddie Mercury (who died of aids related complications- don’t you think he was a major influence on pop music? I sure do! Don’t even know which song to choose – Bohemian Rhapsody, We are the Champions, Somebody to Love? – Gosh, I could list more but too many songs, so little time!

And how can we overlook Springsteen – Streets of Philadelphia!!! – The movie Philadelphia protrayed such a valiant fight of the aids stricken protagonist. I bet you get tons of requests for this one.

Ok – that’s my 2 cents for today.
    I’ll be listening as always!

    Have a great day!

Here’s an eclectic mix for World AIDS Day:

If you’re in a showtune kind of mood then anything from Rent – I love “No Day But Today.”

Then there’s Lou Reed’s “What’s Good” – although I think it was about the loss of his friend to cancer, it’s a song that really captures grief (along with the entire feel of that album “Magic and Loss.”)

Finally – for a little irreverance with a message that is still important – Neneh Cherry with Michael Stipe: “Trout” The title doesn’t tell you anything, but it was an early 90’s song about the need for “S-E-X-E-D-U-C-A-T-I-O-N for the children y’all” – and was specifically about condom use.

Thanks for asking about this theme. I”m curious to see what others come up with.

of all the artists, Elton John epitomizes the efforts for
AIDS awareness: “SKYLINE PIGEON”- an early gem (a harpsichord version
may be on the Royal concert album?)…he played this tune for that
young boy sticken w/ HIV- his name is on the tip of my tongue…David
White?…. of all the artists we lost in those early days i.e. Freddie
Mercury, the one I really miss alot is Peter Allen (“I Go To Rio”)-
just as flamboyant as Liberace and Elton….

Just one song does it for me.

“The Show Must Go On” – Queen.

I’m an RN working at this moment in an Infectious Disease clinic; the majority of our clients are HIV . Please play a song dedicated tot he medical staffs that dedicate their careers to treating and comforting those infected with the virus.

(“She works hard for the Money”, perhaps???)

Gil Scott-Heron’s The Revolution Will Not Be Televised…hands down the best rap about The Struggle, ever.

Speaking of HIV, Annie Lennox appeared at the RockNRoll Hall of Fame show wearing a T-shirt that said HIV Positive on the front, and sang Chain Of Fools with Aretha, which was great, but she never did anything of her own, most notably, Why.

This, of course, left me feeling hollow and unfulfilled, unlike WFUV, which always comes through in the clinch.

    Fill me up, yo…

The songs, that come to mind, for AIDS Awareness, and, who are fighting-the-fight, would be –

“Sing, If Your Glad to Be Gay” (The Tom Robinson Band)

    “True Colors” (Cyndi Lauper)

“Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” (Elton John – or – ANYTHING by Elton John)

ANY SONG FROM: ‘Songs For An AIDS FREE WORLD” (Chris Iverson)!!!!!!!!!
